Last year's champ,
Jamaal St. John, had to endure
a 3 round slam with over 30 poets. This year, we
decided to make it a smaller slam, enlisting only
22 poets. The caliber of poets surpassed the usual
suspects witnessed on the slam scene and with a
two sacrificial poets: Kiara and Falu, the gauntlet
was set.
Falu opened up the entire slam with her piece
dedicated to the
late Slam Champion Shannon Leigh,
earning a 29.8 and a lot of tears throughout the crowd.
Rico Steal followed with a biblical themed poem, and
only walked away with 27.7 and
Charlotte's Slammaster
Bluz followed the biblical theme with an amazing poem
about raising a child that isn't your own called "Joseph"
but was robbed of his place in the second round of top
10 poets.
Uninvited Maine of New Jersey earned the second highest
score with a 29.8, unfortunately, he was disqualified because
of the 3 minute 30 second time period. And
Ben, a Binghamton
debate champ, also fell victim to the time penalty, resulting
in disqualifiation.
