Out of towners
Queen Sheba and
Tavis, representing North
Carolina and Atlanta, earned slots in the second round as
well New Yorkers:
Carvens, Rich Story, Sun, Soulful Jones,
Fascious, Poetryman and slam scene favorites: Caroline,
Adam Falkner and Aziza. The second concluded in a 3 way tie between
Queen Sheba's perfect score of 30 with her proclamation "We Women,"
Rich Story's heart wrench poem about about a emotionally
bankrupt stripper in "Katrina" and the funniest poem of the night,
Tavis' "Crack" -- the crowd erupted.
The final round proved to be a word for word combat, leaving
a tie of two perfect scores between
Tavis and
Queen Sheba.
Tavis lost the coin toss and opened his final poem with a dedication
to his deceased father and Queen Sheba returned with a poem about
a lost love and won with an almost unanimous decision (4 judges to 1),
becoming the first woman to win the SBPF Slam Champion title!
